...continued from Page 2

The message sending was a huge success. All the Elders were there to discuss this "Gift" from White Buffalo Calf Woman. She had chosen Iron Hawk as a trusted brave to meet with her to deliver this Sacred Bundle to the Chiefs and elders of the people. Iron Hawk spoke to the Elders what she instructed him to say and do. They were all amazed that this Holy Woman appeared to Iron Hawk after the Big Buffalo Kill. Their food supply was replenished, they had new buffalo robes for warmth, and they had much needed clothing to wear. She was the giver of all that was good and needed by the Sioux Nation's People. She was a respected young and beautiful Indian woman.

The day arrived for Iron Hawk to meet White Buffalo Calf Woman on the grounds of the Big Buffalo Killing. He had been there for a while when he saw the White Buffalo approaching him. He was dressed in all his finery - his headdress was magnificent, his porcupine quilled breast shield and his quilled neck choker, his doeskin leggings, and his ornate and beaded moccasins - made Iron Hawk present himself very respectful.

The White Buffalo approached Iron Hawk then it stopped, knelt down on Mother Earth, and rolled over on its back several times. The beautiful Indian woman, White Buffalo Calf Woman, appeared there in front of him. She was dressed in her beautiful white regalia with her long black braided hair and with her knee-length white moccasins. They went to a place to sit and talk. White Buffalo Calf Woman told Iron Hawk that she had brought an instrument to bring peace and harmony and a prophecy to end the wars and suffering of all children. "First, you must take this bundle to your elders and tell them what I am instructing you to say." She told Iron Hawk that it was an honor for her to present him with the Pipe of Peace. She said to him, "You are to cradle this PIPE with love, honor, and care. For in you lives the understanding of all mothers whose love and protection of the children, which is sacred, and you are the one who knows the sacredness of the child. So, take this Sacred Pipe in this bundle and present it to your people."

She also said, "The Pipe has no honor, but when the one who holds it in his possession learns the love for all children as a mother does, then the pipe becomes sacred. When you put the pipe forward with that understanding and with the desire for peace within your heart, then the pipe will become sacred." Her words were received by Iron Hawk with a special message to his heart. He would say White Buffalo Calf Woman's words to all the Chiefs and Elders at the Circle of Trust in the same manner that she spoke to him as she gave him his instructions. This was the reason that all of the Chiefs and Elders were called to be present at this Council of Trust. And in closing, she further instructed Iron Hawk what to say to the Chiefs and Elders of the Seven Councils that they will choose a Keeper of this Sacred Bundle until she returns here on Mother Earth.

Today, the Sacred Bundle is kept in a sacred place on the Cheyenne Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Its keeper is known as the One Who Keeps the White Buffalo Calf Pipe, and his name is Arvol Looking Horse.

On August 20, 1994 a white buffalo calf was born. Its name is Miracle. "Miracle" the white buffalo calf was born on the Dave and Val Heider farm in Janesville, Wisconsin.
